About this tool

Estimate how long a data transfer will actually take, given its size and your link's sustained speed — accounting for real-world overhead that back-of-envelope math usually ignores.

Enter the transfer size (MiB up to PiB) and your connection's rated speed (Mbps up to Tbps); the calculator converts both to a common bytes-per-second basis and computes duration. An optional efficiency percentage lets you discount the rated link speed for protocol overhead, contention, or a known-achievable ceiling — a 10 Gbps link rarely sustains 10 Gbps of actual payload once TCP/IP, encryption, and replication-protocol overhead are accounted for, and this is where that correction belongs instead of guessing at the final duration.

Common uses: sizing a maintenance window for a SnapMirror baseline transfer, estimating how long a bulk migration to a new array will take before committing to a cutover date, or sanity-checking whether a stated transfer SLA is achievable on the link actually available.
